Week 3: YouTube adventure

This week we had an assignment to venture into the world of youtube. Yeah! the gargantuan world of youtube but this time with a purpose. Back in the day it was used to watch funny videos and then we had vloggers who would give people a summary of things that happened during a week or even daily.  Youtube allowed for people to have a voice and visual media that allowed the user to create full compositions.  Their affordance is so easy to decode that in no time people are able to use their editing skills and sharpen those videos.

First thing I did was just to search twitter tools on youtube. Marketing is the mother of all these apps that came up.  Tools are meant to help you elaborate good twitts to get that traffic and attraction of readers and followers.

Just a quick observation on one of the tools that got my attention. Google alerts. This tool helps you choose key words that are of interest of your "followers" and once those keywords are found on the internet you will be notified. This is an excellent tool if you want content based on specific interests.

Movin on...

EDTECH

Ok, moving on...

Another topic that I also investigated was "teaching and learning with technology" and if you are not familiar with TED talk videos... well, they popped up a lot! Quick explanation of TED talk videos.  People who have a following and are "experts" notice my "" is because sometimes they might not be the best resource of information but they do hold the right to express themselves and so on...

So... TED talks came up first but the second choice was this guy called Ned EdTech Classroom.  This guy has a channel where he summarizes what he thinks are the best tech tools for teachers for this 2021. Pretty interesting and very engaging way of introducing new tech to educators. The best part is that there is no way he is getting paid by any of these edtech... well I hope.  That would only make me question the effectiveness and reliance of his information.

As I ventured into videos discussing the web 2.0 first thing that caught my attention is that there aren't that many views. The video that got shared to me in class was the one with 12 million views but it was created 14 years ago!

Besides the learning aspect of the web 2.0... there are so many videos about the negative impact on our social skills. Something about how we don't retain information or whatever....

Ok moving on.

Web 2.0 advantages is that it is available anytime therefore the world can become our classroom.  Interesting, and well you are now reading this blog post from a guy somewhere in Texas and you can comment and share you thoughts too or just straight up tell me that all of this is a lie... yeah! There are other problems that have arise from the web 2.0 such as privacy and relying on devices that must be turned on all the time.

To make this tour even more complete I also have to search my current teaching task which is 5th grade science and math.  Crashcourse for kids popped up just by searching 5 grade science and I have seen and showed those videos to my classes.  They are pretty awesome and the host is very entertaining and engaging for kids.  There are also videos like the one with the title "Classroom tour" which gave me great ideas on how to arrange my now classroom.  Experiments, and field trips... resources everywhere!

And the best for last, this is a playlist I always play in my classroom when my kids are doing work! LOFI HIP HOP RADIO - beats to relax/ study to

This picture says it all...
Go check it out...

This tour of YouTube as an adventure has turned out to be very interesting and insightful about topics that I'm barely getting to know about better yet, that I now know the name of the topic.  This is a great source of information just make sure you know the source and understand that this is not peered review and people, all people have access to it.

Ok, for a real playlist of important information I have chosen the flipgrid playlist by Microsoft. The reason is because I use this application on most of my lessons and this playlist helps me refresh ways that it can be used. Here are my playlists if you get a chance.   Click HERE

Thanks for stopping by thanks for all the fish, by the way it is raining! we certainly need it, hitting those 108's heat index is no joke!

Have a great day and see y'all back here again soon!
