eportfolio thinking for 4th grade science
an Eportfolio serves as an all around tool that is devised to engulf a variety of skills under one roof. For my class to begin thinking of ways on how to use their eportfolio I have to first create introduce the Context in this example we will be working on where does water go after a precipitation. To deliver the content I use nearpod where I design my lessons using the pdf of the textbook we have for class. Here is a preview of the lesson.
I currently use (Pedagogy, knowledge and content and technology) Nearpod because its affordance allows me to include very important tools to teach. On this nearpod I just used to deliver content and check for understanding. The student job was to take this to another level and make a page on google site that they will display what they learned about TEK 4.7(B) runoff water and then share it with other students for critique or just to expose them to sharing tools and collaboration.
With the us of video and textual content I introduce the information. In this example we are talking about runoff water. The objective for them is that they will be able to observe and identify slow changes to Earth's surface caused by weathering, erosion and deposition from water.
We spend time on slide 5 where the text is used to formulate questions that can be answered with the information on the text. After we are done I assess their understanding and their job is to first of all ace the content part. Secondly they have to use google cites and describe with pictures, videos and content what is runoff water, where does it go and the effects it has on earths surface. Google site has already premade pages that include layouts that allow for pictures to be added along with text. I just show them how to apply a layout and add a simple picture and description or definition. The affordance of google sites allows them to quickly add videos and modify the content and design.
Today I tried it out and one of my students began to ask me how to change the font size and to make it look cool!
Another activity I'm going to work is to make my students make a study page where students can access notecards, slideshows and illustrated vocabulary words to prepare for an assessment. The best part is that they will be able to use it for the test. Depending on how complete there page is they will have better chances of accessing the information I'm looking for on my assessment. To add to it, they will be allowed to share eportfolio with other students if they feel that the other students have information that could benefit them for the test.
Here is an example of one of my students eportfolio page.
On the next lessons they will be assigned to create a table of content that will include an about me page, along with links to the content. This will be their ongoing record of all the things we learn and work in our class.
